we’ve officially launched our first event for 2025 – $50 for four courses created with menu of erin who moonlights at marama, happening this valentine’s day – and have a few others in the pipeline so watch this space. feeling like this year is gonna be a busy one and I don’t think I’m the only one – there’s so much happening over the next few weeks that I rushed to get another sub out early just to give y’all a heads up
that said, I don’t think the vibe is overworked, overstressed, taking on too much, burning the candle at both ends, no time for friends, no time for love (self or otherwise), no time to breathe
I think it’s take what you want, leave what you don’t, abundance mindset, wealth as what we ascribe value to, community as true / inclusive / holistic community and not false idols of such (keeping in mind the privilege of everything I said)
but I digress. here’s what you came here for:

there were just too many good things recently that I’m giving you two:
edita’s fish burger (carlton n) - I don’t like superlatives so I won’t say this is the best fish burg in melbourne but it’s my fave for sure. thick fillet, american cheese, martin’s potato bun. get a chop suey (sapasui, the samoan cousin of japchae) spring roll too
pineapple pumpkin spice smoothie + hokey pokey protein cream + roasted pumpkin seeds (my house) - inspired by this article I wrote about two-toned drinks. you may not know this about me but I’m a protein-maxxing gym bro at heart
kababi shishlik kabab (sunshine) - the salamatea team’s new iranian kebab shop in sunshine but not the cute, walkable-from-the-station sunshine – the industrial, 30 min trek in the blistering sun(shine). the whole experience was a bit frustrating for unsaid reasons but the lamb cutlets, the last bits of which I nibbled off the bone like some starved dog, giving me mad chili’s kid’s menu backy-back ribs flashbacks, were glorious
wing la durian cake (footscray) - I ate this at a birthday party – no cake will ever compare. the durian was so clear on the nose / palate in a nice way, the cream and cake so light and airy and (ik it’s a meme but) not too sweet. reminds me of the good old days when my bday cakes came from the grocery store bakery and not someone on instagram
apostrophe flourless choc blackberry cake and cinnamon scroll (abbotsford) - that said, long live the ig cake trade – that’s where these are from. shout out to cass and friends for welcoming me even though I showed up alone knowing no one and tenting my dress which, regretably, got caught on camera
secondipity spring onion cream cheese and garlic butter sogeum ppang (collingwood) - soft on the inside and chewy like a bagel on the outside (which is crusted with thick salt), they’re basically a pillsbury crescent roll (which they are, presumably, inspired by) but a million times better. the subtle sweetness, imo, is best in savoury applications for proper flavour balance
kuuki cafe sakura matcha (sunshine) - the matcha was delightfully strong and unsweetened – the perfect counterbalance to the thick, floral sweet sakura cream. it’s an unassuming spot but the matcha quality is 10/10
masses heirloom tomato, padron butter and horseradish on preserved lemon bagel, add cheese (fitzroy) - you already know but I’m telling you anyway. the heirloom tomato is a new addition, I think? the menu suggested adding blue cheese for $6 BUT they were out of blue cheese and said they could add some other soft cheese they didn’t mention the name of but did rave about, bringing my total for one mf bagel to $21 (!!!) sadly it was undersalted af and kinda hard to eat but the bagel itself is god-tier
love ya <3
